In the absence of an instituted acolyte, lay persons may be altar servers. An altar is a boy or girl, man or woman, who assists the priest at the altar. At St. Bernard, boys and girls are permitted to become altar servers beginning in the fifth grade.
Being an altar server is both a privilege and a honor. It is a serious commitment of service to the Church. We ask that parents and children examine their schedules and current commitments and prayerfully consider whether or not they will be able to faithfully carry out their duties.
Please contact our Coordinator Liturgy, Erica Gamerro, for more information about being an altar server.
