 Lay women and men of Saint Bernard Parish are members of a Pastoral Council who join
the pastor and staff in a spirit of shared leadership and responsibility.
Their primary duties are to articulate the vision and mission of the parish, to help determine the
needs of the parish, and to develop plans of action in order to fulfill the parish mission and vision. The plans of action include the following parish goals and objectives.
Saint Bernard Parish will invite people to:
1. Be members of a CATHOLIC COMMUNITY through:
- Evangelization
- R.C.I.A
- Retreats
- Spiritual renewal
- Inclusive parish ministries
- Social and cultural programs
- Parish gatherings
2. WORSHIP AND PRAY by providing:
- Meaningful Sunday, Holyday, and Weekday liturgies
- Dignified funeral liturgies
- Beautiful wedding liturgies
- Penance services and confessions
- Anointing services
- Seasonal worship services
- Opportunities to pray
3. SERVE the poor and the rich, families and singles, the separated and divorced, those who are suffering and grieving, the young and the elderly by providing:
- Appropriate ministries and services
- Advocacy
- Home visitation
- Counseling
4. Participate in programs of EDUCATION and FORMATION in the Catholic faith by providing:
- A Catholic Regional Elementary School
- Religious education (CCD) for public and
private elementary school children
- Adult education
5. SHARED PARISH LEADERSHIP by providing:
- Opportunities through various parish ministries
and organizations to incorporate principles of good stewardship
- Workshops to develop gospel attitudes,
relevant knowledge, and useful skills
